EDITOR’S NOTE
Digital divide in nations
It is becoming increasingly clear that the ability of nations to use
technology effectively in the coming years will determine their future
pace of GDP growth. While the machines of manufacturing, scales
of production, and efficiencies of infrastructure will continue to
strengthen standards of living and business, transformation of nations
into the realms of digital cities and mobile citizens will be determined
by cost and penetration of telecommunications, Internet, mobile
tariffs, number of schools and colleges teaching digital fundamentals,
adoption of technology by government, amongst many others. It is
now apparent that technology and its public, private and grassroot
adoption will have a direct impact on the future of African nations. We
explore this is our country focus on South Africa and Kenya. We look at
how the banking and telecom divide can be combined by innovative
payment technologies, around the corner. And we see how initiatives
in faraway Dubai can have a direct impact on the growth and future
success of Fintech startups in Africa. All this in Issue 03. Read on.
