PROJECT ROUND-UP

NIGERIA KENYA
The National Information Technology Development Agency( NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting digital literacy within Nigeria’ s education system, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education, health and social investment.
As part of this initiative, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General, NITDA, led a delegation to meet with Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission( UBEC). The engagement builds on NITDA’ s wider strategy of collaborating with key educational institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission( NUC) and the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council( NERDC), to embed digital skills across all levels of learning.
To advance this goal, a joint committee has been established to develop and implement a roadmap for effectively integrating digital literacy into the basic education curriculum. The aim is to equip young Nigerians with essential digital competencies needed to thrive in the 21st-century digital economy.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority( KCAA) has approved the Konza National Drone Corridor, marking a significant milestone for the country’ s aviation and technology sectors.
Spearheaded by the Konza Technopolis Development Authority( KoTDA), the corridor is Kenya’ s first designated controlled airspace for Beyond Visual Line of Sight( BVLOS) drone operations.
John Paul Okwiri, Chief Executive Officer of Konza Technopolis, said this development represents a major stride in Kenya’ s mission to establish a robust unmanned aircraft systems( UAS) ecosystem and underscores the country’ s growing prominence as a hub of technological innovation in Africa.
“ The establishment of this drone corridor within a Smart City will spur significant economic growth by attracting investment, create new opportunities and also firmly position Konza Technopolis as the premier destination for African tech talent and enterprise to thrive,” he said.
Strategically located within the Konza Technopolis Smart City, the corridor has been designed to uphold safety and security while minimising risks to manned aviation, people, property and the environment.
