QNB Group, one of the largest financial institutions in the Middle East and Africa, has announced the license approval has been received for a digital-first banking entity, ezbank, from the Central Bank of Egypt.
EBANX, a global technology company focused on payment solutions for emerging markets, has introduced the integration of Capitec Pay, South Africa’ s leading Open Banking-based realtime payment method.
This milestone reflects the Group’ s commitment to supporting the Central Bank of Egypt’ s vision for financial inclusion and Digital Transformation, as well as the government’ s broader economic development strategy.
This launch marks EBANX’ s first Open Banking solution outside Brazil and positions the company among the first global payment service providers( PSPs) to enable Capitec Pay for cross-border ecommerce.
The license approval for ezbank is an important step in Egypt’ s on-going efforts to transform the banking sector. By securing the approval, ezbank positions itself at the forefront of this transformation, reflecting Egypt’ s growing role as a hub for innovation and financial inclusion.
ezbank will combine advanced digital technology with international best practices to offer seamless financial services to a broad customer base. The bank will use mobile-first platforms, AI-driven tools and smart risk management to make transactions easier, increase access and support Egypt’ s digital economy.
Developed by Capitec Bank, Capitec Pay represents the first large-scale rollout of Open Banking-based account-to-account( A2A) payments in South Africa. Through EBANX, international merchants in sectors such as online retail and subscription services – including streaming, gaming and SaaS( Software-asa-Service) – can now offer this advanced payment option to their South African customers.
