PROJECT ROUND-UP

Msossi, a locally developed food technology platform, is launching in Kenya, intending to reduce food waste and losses by connecting retailers directly with consumers.
The app allows restaurants, supermarkets and hotels to list surplus or near-expiry food at discounted prices, creating opportunities for businesses to minimise losses while offering affordable options to consumers.
Positioned as Kenya’ s first app dedicated to tackling food waste, Msossi aims to create a more sustainable and efficient food ecosystem.
The platform is designed to benefit both businesses and consumers. By offering deep discounts on excess food, Msossi enables faster turnover of inventory, reduces operational losses, and provides consumers with more affordable access to nutritious food.
The app also tracks measurable impact, including food volumes saved, carbon emissions reduced, and meals rescued, supporting environmental, social, and governance( ESG) reporting for businesses.

Airtel Africa has signed an agreement with SpaceX to roll out Starlink’ s direct-to-cell satellite connectivity across all 14 of its markets.
The deal will cover Airtel Africa’ s 173.8 million customers, with the service scheduled to launch next year. It builds on a previous agreement between Airtel Africa and Starlink and follows a deal signed by parent company Bharti Airtel with Elon Musk’ s SpaceX subsidiary.
Airtel said the initial phase will focus on data services for selected applications and text messaging.
The agreement also supports Starlink’ s first broadband Direct-to-Cell system, using next-generation satellites that the operator claims will deliver data speeds up to 20 times faster.
The service will be accessible on compatible smartphones, enabling users in areas without terrestrial coverage to connect to the network via Starlink.
