THE HIDDEN WORKFORCE POWERING RWANDA’ S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
Behind Rwanda’ s growing reputation as a technology hub lies a workforce that rarely makes headlines but plays a critical role in keeping the country’ s digital ecosystem running. Through the experiences of four women at CCI Rwanda – Donah Kayiranga, Emily Makurumidze, Jeannine Uwiringiyimana and Teckla Giramata – the conversation around Digital Transformation shifts away from start-ups and innovation towards the real people working behind the scenes to keep systems secure, operational and accessible.
What helped you enter and progress in a technical field where women are still underrepresented, and what barriers still remain?
Emily Makurumidze: For many Africans, necessity often shapes career choices before personal dreams fully take form. In my journey, I would say IT found me. I had been pursuing a degree in Engineering, when an opportunity came to join CCI as a Technical Support Consultant. I accepted it, and what began unexpectedly became the foundation of my career in technology. My growth was shaped by an environment that values coaching, skills development and opportunity.
