Native acquires Frontline Research to strengthen Africa’ s agentic AI layer
Native, the agentic intelligence company building the operating system for offline trade, announced it has acquired Frontline Research Group, a leading market intelligence business serving consumer goods companies across more than 14 African markets.
Native is acquiring Frontline to add independent market share data that tells brands whether their commercial actions are translating into real gains. Together, the two companies give consumer goods companies a complete picture from action to outcome within a single subscription.
Native is building the operating system for offline trade, a platform that helps consumer goods companies see, act and measure across the world’ s largest fragmented markets. Its global subscriptions include Lattice( field execution), Strata( distribution analytics) and Overwatch( commercial optimization), giving brands the tools to decide where to act and grow share in fragmented, physical trade environments.
Africa represents a vastly underpenetrated growth market for global consumer goods companies. Approximately $ 1.7 trillion in consumer spend flows through the continent annually, with ~ 80 % moving through traditional trade channels. These fragmented networks of more than 10 million analog stores have historically been difficult for the largest global brands to see, measure and act on.

Somali National University launches country’ s first National AI Centre
Somali National University has opened the Somali National
Artificial Intelligence Centre, creating the country’ s first national hub dedicated to Artificial Intelligence research, education and innovation as Somalia seeks to strengthen its Digital Transformation agenda.
The new Centre of Excellence was unveiled during a ceremony in Mogadishu attended by representatives from government institutions, universities, higher education bodies, technology specialists, Artificial Intelligence experts and other stakeholders. The university said the facility will become its main centre for AI research and innovation while supporting locally developed technologies aimed at national development.
According to the university, the centre will focus on expanding research, developing Somali expertise, encouraging innovation, contributing to AI policy and governance and building partnerships that promote responsible Artificial Intelligence. Research will cover Machine Learning, natural language processing, data science, computer vision, robotics and AI ethics, with projects designed to benefit sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, governance and economic growth.
In addition to research, the centre will provide academic courses, professional training, research programmes and innovation initiatives to equip students, researchers and professionals with the skills needed to apply Artificial Intelligence across the country.
The launch reflects Somalia’ s ambition to develop its own AI capabilities rather than rely solely on imported technologies. It also follows the country’ s recent call for African languages to be better represented in Artificial Intelligence systems, highlighting the importance of Somali-language research.
By establishing a national institution focused on Artificial Intelligence, Somalia aims to develop home-grown expertise, retain skilled researchers and encourage technological innovation that supports long-term economic and social development.
