FEATURE not surveillance for its own sake. The objective is to create safe, accountable and intelligent institutional environments, with appropriate privacy controls.
Transport is another area. A parent should be able to see relevant transport information, make a booking for opening or closing, and receive appropriate updates without relying entirely on phone calls.
Kitchen and asset management are equally important. Schools spend significant resources on food and physical assets. Technology can help institutions plan meals based on expected numbers, track consumption, manage stock and reduce wastage. Similarly, assets should not simply be recorded in a spreadsheet that is forgotten after procurement; institutions should know what they have, where it is, who is responsible for it and its lifecycle.
Ultimately, I see SIIMS becoming the digital backbone connecting students, teachers, parents, management and the physical school environment. •
