Vodafone Business has unveiled two major partnerships with Elsewedy Electric and Cassava Technologies to expand Egypt’ s data and AI infrastructure.
The first will establish Africa Data Centres Egypt and develop what is planned to become the country’ s largest data centre. The facility will have an initial operational capacity of 20MW within its first three years, with a pathway to scale to 200MW.
Phase one is expected to attract approximately US $ 200 million in foreign direct investment, while total investment could reach US $ 1 billion when the facility reaches full capacity. The project is also expected to create up to 200 direct and around 2,000 indirect jobs.
Vodafone Business will contribute its cloud and enterprise technology expertise, while Elsewedy Electric will provide infrastructure, energy and project delivery capabilities. Cassava Technologies will bring its experience in developing and operating data centre infrastructure across Africa.
A separate partnership between Vodafone Business and Cassava Technologies will establish Egypt’ s first sovereign AI data centre, enabling advanced AI applications and workloads to be hosted and processed locally.

The U. S. Trade and Development Agency( USTDA) is funding a feasibility study for the development of two large-scale, AIready data centres in Nigeria.
The agency has signed an agreement with African investment firm INFRAGORA Global Capital to assess proposed facilities in Lagos and Delta states, representing one of the most significant planned data centre investments in the country.
The study will conduct technical and financial assessments, including evaluating the facilities’ capacity to support AI workloads. The development will form the initial phase of INFRAGORA’ s AFRIDATA Datacenter Platform, which is intended to expand data centre infrastructure across Africa.
The project is expected to create opportunities for technology providers across AI software, cloud infrastructure, data storage, advanced networking, computing hardware and cybersecurity.
With Africa currently accounting for less than 2 % of global data centre capacity, the initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’ s digital infrastructure and support growing demand for cloud and AI services.
