included; developing a strategy for e-waste management,
standards for e-waste and a review of the policy and
legal framework for e-waste management in Rwanda;
establishing the relevant infrastructure and network for
the collection, dismantling and recycling of e-waste
and promoting employment opportunities,
especially for youth
and women.
ANGOLA
South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), the first
submarine cable system across the South Atlantic, is
in the final stretch of its installation between Africa and
South America. Angola Cables, the company overseeing
installation and the operations of SACS, and NEC Corporation,
a Japanese system integrator of highest quality fibre optic
cable systems and the turnkey contractor for SACS construction,
has hired Orange Marine to commence shortly the deepwater
laying of the cable. The deepwater phase of the installation
will last 90 days and cover a distance of 6,200 km of cable
at depths of up to 5,000 metres. With SACS in place,
wholesale customers between the continents will see
a fivefold improvement in latency.
