EGYPT
Terminal 2 at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport is
being expanded. A new runway will be constructed about
23km north-east of the city, with the planned expansions
increasing the airport’s capacity to 18 million passengers a
year. The expansion of Terminal 2 will be also see its capacity go
up to 9.5 million passengers a year, a rise of two million.
The new 60 metre-wide runway will be for large aircraft and
40 new airsides, with the number of passenger lounges
being increased from eight to 12 halls.
SOMALIA
A Berbera Free Zone is being developed in Somaliland.
The project is based on DP World’s Jebel Ali Free Zone
(Jafza) to complement the development of the Port of
Berbera. The first phase will focus on four square kilometres
of land out of the 12.2 square kilometres earmarked for the
project. Future phases will be detailed in a concept plan,
together with the projected capital investment required from
DP World for its development. The project includes a wide
range of businesses, including warehousing, logistics,
traders and manufacturers.
