PROJECT UPDATE LATEST REGIONAL PROJECT UPDATE GHANA Nzema Solar Power Station is a 155-megawatt (208,000 hp) solar power plant located at Aiwiaso Village, Nzema East District, Western Region, Ghana. The power station will use a total of 630,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) modules which, when struck by sunlight, will generate direct current (DC) electricity. Using inverters, the DC will be converted to alternating current (AC), which will be fed in the national electricity grid, to power an estimated 100,000 homes. The project will be developed on 83 hectares (450 acres). SOUTH AFRICA The Kathu Solar Park is a 100-megawatt (MW) concentrated solar park, situated in Kathu, in the Northern Cape Province, 600km of Pretoria. It is a greenfield Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project with parabolic trough technology and equipped with a molten salt storage system that allows four-and-a-half hours of thermal energy storage. Once in operation, Kathu Solar Park will have the capacity to supply 80,000 households across South Africa and will help reduce carbon emissions by 300,000 tonnes every year. 26 INTELLIGENTCIO www.intelligentcio.com
