EDITOR’S
NOTE
H
ello and welcome to the latest
edition of Intelligent CIO Africa. This
month’s featured story focuses on
the work that IBL Group has done with Grove
and Mimecast in addressing its Officer 365
email security challenges.
The IBL Group is the largest conglomerate
in Mauritius, employing more than 26,000
people. With so many businesses and users
in its stable, IBL Group wanted an email
system that was easy to manage and saw
the value in shifting its on-premise email
solution to Microsoft Office 365 in the cloud.
tells us what the main risks are and how to
mitigate these.
Also in our Threat Assessment feature, you
can find out how Commercial International
Bank, based in Egypt, has implemented
enterprise risk and anti-money laundering
platforms from SAS to streamline risk
management processes.
We hear from Laurent Fayolle, IBL’s Group
IT Executive and Acting CIO, who says the
Group wanted more than an out-of-the-box
solution from a vendor that they’d never
see again. IBL Group found that support
in Grove, a Mimecast reseller and partner.
And as we find out, the company saw
immediate results. Our second feature is Business Continuity and
how organisations need to have the processes
and procedures in place so that mission
critical servers and applications can function
after a disaster. Corne du Preez, Technology
Solutions Professional: Apps and Infra, Altron
Karabina, looks at how organisations can
implement an effective BCDR strategy, while
Riaan Bekker, Force Solutions Manager at
thryve, says cyber risk has become a serious
issue of business continuity and is the core
responsibility of executives of businesses of
any size to protect shareholder value.
Email continues to be one of the key attack
vectors for cybercriminals, and according
to recent research over 85% of all email
reported in May was spam. With this in mind,
we hear from Fady Younes, Cybersecurity
Director, Middle East and Africa, Cisco, who Du Preez also provides his thoughts on the
biggest data storage challenges currently
facing businesses and organisations in
‘Editor’s Question’, with further contributions
from Trent Odgers (Veeam) and Daniel
Jacobs (Vox).
