PROJECT UPDATE LATEST REGIONAL PROJECT UPDATE SIERRA LEONE An e-Justice tool that uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) developed at The Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) will digitise local courts and cases in Sierra Leone. E-Justice is the use of technology to improve transparency and efficiency for wider access to justice. A prototype of the integrated GIS tool was used to visualise, and digitally map the geographic locations of Sierra Leone’s local courts. Upon deployment of the GIS portal, citizens and policymakers will be able to log in to locate any court and to gain a better understanding of the nature and type of disputes at the provincial level. GHANA Smiths Detection has won a contract with Meridian Port Services Limited (MPS) to provide cargo inspection technology for the major Tema Port Expansion project in Ghana – designed to accommodate the world’s largest container ships, improve cargo handling productivity and increase trade to both Ghana and the rest of Africa. Four Smiths Detection HCVPZ60 scanning portals were selected to deliver the Ghanaian authorities more efficient border security, while safeguarding state revenue derived from duties and taxes on containerised goods. With trade anticipated to grow in Ghana in the coming years, these portals have been selected in part because of their ability to facilitate fast and effective security processing of a high volume of container traffic.languages.” 22 INTELLIGENTCIO www.intelligentcio.com
