Davos of

D
uke Corporate Education (Duke CE)
hosted its annual Davos of Human
Capital 2019 event in Johannesburg, South
Africa, as an exploration of the intersection
of humanity, technology, the future of work
and leadership, against the backdrop of
unprecedented change and transformation.
The one-day high-impact conference
brought together more than 500 senior
leaders and HR professionals from across
Africa with the goal of defining the future for
business in an era of Artificial Intelligence
(AI) and digital disruption.
“Building relationships, empathy, and
bringing humanity into the workplace, is the
future of work,” said Sharmla Chetty, Duke
CE’s President of Global Markets.
“Organisations can’t protect jobs which are
made redundant by technology, but we do
have a responsibility to our people. Leaders
have a responsibility to nurture agility,
adaptability and focus on protecting people,
rather than jobs, through reskilling.”
S
parkle, a leading international service
provider in Italy and among the top
10 global operators, has announced it
has moved its Djibouti Point of Presence
(PoP) into the Djibouti Data Center (DDC)
selecting it as Sparkle’s IP hub for its
expansion to East and South Africa.
The Djibouti Data Center is the first
Tier 3 carrier-neutral data center in East
Africa with direct access to all major
international and regional cable systems
connecting the European, Middle Eastern
and Asian markets with Africa.
These cables include SEAMEWE 5, AAE-
1, SEAMEWE 3, Eassy, SEACOM and
EIG; other upcoming cables like DARE
and PEACE are also expected to land
in the Djibouti Data Center. The move
will enable Sparkle to strengthen the

– which grant Seabone customers the
option to protect their network – and
Virtual NAP solutions – which allow
customers to access the main Internet
Exchange Points without the need of
building any proprietary infrastructure –
complete Sparkle’s portfolio of services
offered via the Djibouti Data Center.
Among the many speaker highlights was
Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-
Abrahams, who outlined the South African
government’s various initiatives for enabling
Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.
Nedbank CEO Mike Brown also offered a
unique perspective on how meaningful
collaboration between humans and
