Raxio Group and Meridiam partner to deploy sustainable data centres in Africa in 2018 and has been funding the company since inception .

With the rise of connectivity on the African continent , Raxio ’ s facilities are built to boost Digital Transformation , economic growth and job creation , while using state-of-theart design and technologies to minimise the impact on the environment . Raxio data centres will facilitate Internet traffic to and from content providers locally and make the Internet experience faster , more resilient , and more affordable for all digital users .

The Raxio Group , a pan-African data centre developer and operator , and Meridiam , a global developer , asset and fund manager specialising in sustainable infrastructure and energy transition projects , has announced a partnership to deploy a network of data centres across the African continent .

Under the agreement , Meridiam will invest US $ 48 million to support the continued deployment of data centres in Africa , where both Raxio and Meridiam already have strong local presence . Meridiam ’ s investment is made alongside Raxio ’ s founding equity partner , Roha Group who established Raxio

This investment comes at an ideal time , as we have continued our expansion activities by investing in our third facility – in the Democratic Republic of Congo – following our first flagship facility in Uganda and launching the construction of our Ethiopian data centre .”

New data centre being built in Johannesburg set to launch in 2022

South Africa-based Growthpoint Properties has said it has commenced the development of the first NTT data centre in Africa at the Centralpoint Innovation District in Johannesburg .

Johannesburg 1 Data Centre – dubbed JOH1 – is being developed by Growthpoint on behalf of NTT Ltd and Dimension Data – which represents NTT ’ s business in the Middle East and Africa ( MEA ).
NTT operates one of the largest data centre platforms in the world , with over 160 data centres spanning more than 20 countries and regions . The multi-million-rand , 12-month development project broke ground in September 2020 .
It will comprise 6,000 square metres of IT space and 20MW of IT load facility . JOH1 will also feature high-end offices with an NTT Technology Experience Lab ( TEL ), all supported by specialised stateof-the-art security solutions .
Growthpoint said that the JOH1 project is scheduled for practical completion in the fourth quarter of 2021 and NTT intends to launch it in 2022 . Dimension Data said the new data centre will be a stateof-the-art , highly secure , energy-efficient data centre offering maximum protection for its clients ’ critical and sensitive IT systems .
