Oracle invests US $ 1 million to support African tech start-ups

Tech giant Oracle has announced support of US $ 1 million for tech start-ups in Africa that will help accelerate their digital initiatives with the latest cloud technologies and business resources . Led by Oracle for Start-ups , the company will provide extra resources and support to technology startups across Africa over the next two years .
Cloud credits of up to US $ 10,000 for 100 start-ups will be made available as part of this programme . Hands-on technical
“ At Oracle for Start-ups , we help start-ups grow from grassroots through scaling . Africa is a hotbed for tech entrepreneurs , and we have witnessed a 91 % growth in enrolments from South African start-ups , and 39 % growth from over 13 other African countries within the last year . The US $ 1 million investment will further boost the efforts of tech entrepreneurs in Africa to utilise the latest digital technologies for the success of their start-ups ,” said Jason Williamson , Vice President , Oracle for Start-ups .
A recent report from IDC noted the importance of corporations supporting startups to help further spur innovation .

Merck Foundation the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany that empowers African women in the areas of Science and Technology by providing scholarships recently commemorated ‘ International Day of Girls and Women in Science 2022 ’ through its Science , Technology , Engineering and Mathematics ( STEM ) programme and ‘ Educating Linda ’ programme in Kenya .
Merck Foundation works closely with African policy makers to empower girls in education and women in STEM .

We have also launched MARS Awards to appreciate and recognise ‘ Best African Women Researchers ’ and ‘ Best Young African Researcher ’.
