Nutanix Carbon and Power Estimator helping enterprises understand environmental footprint

Sammy Zoghlami to power and emissions , with insights for developing more sustainable IT strategies .
“ Understanding what drives carbon and power consumption is an important first step for many enterprises looking to advance on their sustainability journey ,” said Sammy Zoghlami , SVP EMEA at Nutanix .
• Compare power consumption of Nutanix ’ s hyper-converged infrastructure , HCI and 3-Tier , SANbased infrastructure . After using the Estimator , users can download a report that highlights how eliminating proprietary SAN components can help reduce power consumption .

Nutanix , a vendor in hybrid multicloud computing , announced the Nutanix Carbon and Power Estimator , a new tool to help organisations understand how different factors can influence their environmental footprint . The Nutanix Carbon and Power Estimator provides users with a report that helps illustrate how infrastructure choices can impact an environmental footprint with regard

The Nutanix Carbon and Power Estimator enables organisations to :
• Estimate the effects of different factors on power and emissions for Nutanix solutions .
• Account for geography , which can also play a major factor in sustainability . The Nutanix Carbon and Power Estimator demonstrates the impact of moving workloads to geographies that leverage low carbon sources for energy generation compared to fossil fuels , which have a higher carbon intensity .
Based on a third-party reviewed methodology , Nutanix HCI demonstrated significant power savings compared to 3-Tier solution with the ability to run a similar workload .
Simon Sowerby , Technical Services Coordinator , City of Unley shared : “ Our previous three-tier system consisted of about ten racks of compute equipment , and we have been able to reduce that to a quarter rack . Our power expenses have come down about 70 %, which is working out to tens of thousands of dollars – and 24,000kg of CO 2 emissions – saved per year .”

Obsidian Systems integrates Atlassian suite of tools , including Confluence and Jira

Obsidian Systems , a supplier of opensource software solutions , has significantly improved its business processes by integrating Atlassian ’ s suite of tools , including Confluence and Jira , into its operations . The move comes after a need for a more efficient and centralised way of managing information was identified .

Karl Fischer , CTO of Obsidian Systems , recalls a crucial moment that led to the switch : “ Obsidian was on a call with a customer , and the information on the corporate Wiki was outdated . We ended up looking like a fool in front of the customer . Obsidian needed to switch over to use a better way of inputting information to deliver a better experience for the customer .”
To address this issue , Obsidian Systems decided to centralise all documentation in Atlassian Confluence . The platform ’ s ease of use and rapid content building capabilities proved invaluable in migrating existing information . The company also transitioned from on-premises Confluence to cloud-based Confluence , which provided increased flexibility .
Obsidian Systems ’ journey with Atlassian began ten years ago , starting with Confluence and evolving to include other tools such as HipChat , Jira , Bitbucket , and eventually Slack when Atlassian acquired the platform . Today , the company primarily uses Confluence and Jira , with the latter proving to be a powerhouse solution for the business .
Jira has been customised to fit Obsidian ’ s unique needs , including HR management , KPI tracking for engineers , and alert management . Additionally , it integrates seamlessly with other tools used within the business . “ Jira is a super customisable solution to tailor-make processes and can be customised to all our business processes ,” says van Staden .

Integrating Jira with Obsidian ’ s systems proved to be relatively easy , thanks to Atlassian ’ s robust documentation and supportive community . Since then , Obsidian has become an Atlassian partner and has integrated Atlassian ’ s solutions with some of South Africa ’ s top banks .
