Cyber-attacks now part of African business landscape
African enterprises have an availability gap , how fast they can recover versus how fast they need applications to return to full productivity , and a protection gap , explains Ian Engelbrecht at Veeam .
Sometimes the simplest things in life can be accomplished if only we would revert to the basics . And cybersecurity is one of them . In life , we often come across things that cannot be stopped . From growing up and ageing to paying taxes , in most countries , some things are simply unavoidable . The same can be said for cyber-attacks , in particular , cyber-security and the issue of ransomware .
No matter how hard companies try , cyber-attacks and ransomware will always be a reality that a business cannot escape from . Ask the 85 % of organisations that fell victim to at least one cyberattack in the past year , as reported in the Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2023 .
These days it is not a question if , or when , an organisation will suffer an attack in cyberspace , but how often . In short , there is no single way to prevent ransomware attacks , irrespective of what the experts may say or try to sell . The only bulletproof way to prepare for an attack is to bolster your security stocks and build your organisation ’ s resiliency .
Akin to taking martial arts classes to help defend yourselves from attacks , protecting an organisation ’ s sensitive information starts with investing both time and money and taking the necessary steps to implement an adequate protection strategy .
We are only as strong as our weakest link , and this means an evaluation from the ground up is essential so that an organisation can get back up after being knocked down , and quickly recover after any attack .
