Nokia and INX-ZA future-proof Internet connectivity in South Africa

Nokia has been selected by INX-ZA, the

Internet Exchange Point division of the Internet Service Provider Association( ISPA), to modernise South Africa’ s exchange infrastructure with high-performance IP routing technology.
The upgrade will introduce new 400GE and expanded 100GE services, boosting speed, resilience and capacity for businesses and Internet users nationwide. The deployment begins in Johannesburg at JINX, Africa’ s oldest Internet Exchange Point, which has maintained 100 % uptime since 1996. JINX will expand from seven to 10 data centres by year-end, with 30 high-performance platforms to ensure availability while extending reach.
Powered by Nokia’ s 7250 Interconnect Routers and Service Router Operating System( SR OS), the upgrade enables INX-ZA to deliver services not previously available in the region and scale its backbone with 400GE links across points of presence.
“ Upgrading to Nokia’ s 400GE-ready infrastructure isn’ t just about adding capacity – it’ s about reimagining how South Africa connects,” said Nishal Goburdhan, General Manager at INX-ZA.“ With this modern, energy-efficient platform, we can deliver faster, more reliable and sustainable services while maintaining the uptime our community expects.”
