NEWS Joint-partnership for Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum Trackmatic proves the case for Driver- Led Visibility at Eurasiayan Supply Chain and Logistics Forum David Slotow, CEO of Trackmatic The Internet Society and African IXP Association is to hold the Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) T he Internet Society and African IXP Association is to hold the Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF). The annual event, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from August 21–23, serves as a platform to expand and develop the African Internet. It connects infrastructure, service and content providers with policymakers to identify and discuss ways to improve network interconnection, lower the cost of connectivity and increase the number of users in the region. Over 200 participants attended last year’s AfPIF in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, including providers of international, regional and sub-regional transport, transit and content, as well as more than 20 IXPs from Africa and beyond. 10 INTELLIGENTCIO “The African IXP Association has been absolutely amazed by South Africa’s rapid development and is proud to host this year’s AfPIF in Cape Town,” said Kyle Spencer, Co-ordinator of the African IXP Association. “We all benefit from their innovation and continued success and hope that our collective presence will provide additional momentum.” ISPA Chairman Graham Beneke added: This is a fantastic example of the kind of pan-African ICT co-operation envisioned by the Abuja and OR Tambo declarations of the 1990s.” Internet Peering is a business relationship whereby two network operators agree to provide access to each other’s network at no cost. T he CEO of Trackmatic has showcased how the transportation and logistics industry can transform operations by blending people and technology at the 2018 Eurasiayan Supply Chain and Logistics Forum. The solution, according to David Slotow, is to empower the driver and turn the person who sits behind the wheel into the solution. “Individuals and businesses expect their goods to arrive faster, to be more flexible in their delivery methodologies and to do all this at a lower price point than ever before,” he said. “Technology that enables this may be one of the agents of change but without people it is just a tool that lacks a catalyst.” At the forum, Slotow demonstrated the relevance and impact of Driver-Led Visibility by unpacking three case studies that show how mobility-only solutions have enabled drivers to shift behaviour. Drivers empowered by this level of technology and support show marked levels of improvement across driver engagement, alignment with business strategy and on-road performance. Slotow also highlighted how technology used by the drivers can deliver valuable insights and trends to the organisation, allowing for richer decision making and better bottom line results. www.intelligentcio.com
