If you could go back and change one career decision , what would it be ?
I would not change a thing as I am in a really good place . In fact , some of the mistakes I made got me to where I am now .
What do you currently identify as the major areas of investment in your industry ?
5G deployment , the short-term benefits are practical , mainly speed and comfort . The longer-term difference will be more profound , including new applications enabling Smart Cities , IoT , healthcare monitoring , transport . Wearable displays are going to be interesting to watch . But , overall , accessories ( camera , keyboard , screens etc .), which are going to make the new hybrid model of work more efficient .
What are the region-specific challenges when implementing new technologies ?
Deployment of networks in some SADC countries , budget and affordability , IT training and skills development remain challenges in this region .
What changes to your job role have you seen in the last year and how do you see these developing in the next 12 months ?
How to manage and motivate a hybrid workforce . We must constantly juggle with the flexibility of working from home and then coming back to the office . The real trick is to be able to still collaborate and give the flexibility of working in different locations . We have the tools to do it , but the management of it is new and we must learn quickly . If we can master the hybrid work model , we will be extremely successful .
What advice would you offer somebody aspiring to obtain C-level position in your industry ?
Be curious . Don ’ t hesitate to do different jobs in your organisation . Plan your career with various possible paths and share your knowledge . Most important of all , have fun with it . p
