“ We were established in 1926 which means our systems , data and insights have a long history that have been carried over for generations ,” says Lucien Jansen , CEO PPECB . “ That alone brings a unique expectation to any technology integration , we had to retain our history while moving seamlessly into a more digitalised environment .”
Replacing these systems was not merely an adoption of new technology but a preservation of a long-standing work culture . With dedicated employees , some serving for several decades , accustomed to manual processes , a primary concern was identifying a solution that could meet the requirements and expectations of human aspects of change while ensuring operational flexibility .
Implementation
Altron Karabina , a division of Altron , provides innovative Microsoft technology for business modernisation and delivers value to customers . Established in 2001 , Karabina was part of the iSPartners group of companies until September 2018 when the business was acquired by Altron .
The company has a national footprint in South Africa and Africa and consists of six business units , data planning and analytics , customer engagement , dynamic operations , applications and infrastructure , digital workplace , and software services .
Altron Karabina has earned the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Partner of the Year eight times and achieved Microsoft Data Analytics Partner of the Year for the thirteenth year in a row .
Altron Karabina won the tender to implement Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP after undergoing an extensive bidding process . PPECB has a rigorous governance framework which meant the due diligence was complex and challenging . However , Altron Karabina emerged as the partner for the company based on previous experience and a commitment to build a long-term relationship with PPECB .
For PPECB ’ s Jansen the journey was symbiotic with both companies driving the integration forward with a shared vision and focus on achieving sustainable results .
Altron Karabina initiated a transformative process at PPECB by implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 ’ s financial modules , marking the beginning of a comprehensive ERP solution . They seamlessly integrated the supply chain management modules , demonstrating significant progress .
The current roadmap extends the implementation to encompass a wider array of D365 functionalities , including product inspection , food safety , laboratory , business intelligence , and integration of various business units . These modules will help to bring improvements across the cold chain .
The financial module was the first to be implemented and is being followed by the supply chain modules . The systems are designed to integrate with one another and to leverage the company ’ s long-standing data history to ensure interoperability and visibility without the limitations of silos .
This shift aims to address the challenges posed by the heavily customised legacy system , enabling PPECB to transition to a standardised D365 ERP system with customisation considerations after gaining a deep understanding of their processes .
