INTERPOL Operation Serengeti III leads to 1,462 arrests across Africa
Group-IB has announced its support for INTERPOL’ s Operation Serengeti III, a multinational law enforcement initiative targeting cybercriminal networks across Africa, which resulted in 1,462 arrests, the disruption of 10,909 malicious networks and the recovery of more than US $ 105 million in illicit funds.
Coordinated by INTERPOL between 29 June and 31 August 2026, the operation brought together law enforcement agencies from 21 African countries to combat cyber-enabled fraud, ransomware, business email compromise( BEC), online scams and digital extortion.
Authorities identified 65,929 victims, while financial investigations linked the criminal activities to losses exceeding US $ 385 million.
Group-IB also provided information on threat actors involved in fraudulent activities, including identified social media accounts linked to suspected fraudsters.
The operation comes amid an evolving cyber threat landscape across Africa, where cyber-enabled financial crime continues to pose significant risks to businesses, governments and individuals.
According to INTERPOL’ s African Cyber Threat Assessment Report 2026, Artificial Intelligence is increasingly being exploited to facilitate cybercriminal activities, while financial losses associated with cybercrime continue to rise.
As a long-standing INTERPOL partner, Group-IB supported the operation by providing threat intelligence and investigative expertise to help identify and disrupt cybercriminal networks operating across the continent.
The company shared intelligence on malicious infrastructure, including phishing kits, botnets and other resources hosted in Africa or used to conduct cyberattacks targeting organisations and individuals in the region.
Liberia launches AI and coding initiative for 1,000 girls
The Ministry of Education in Liberia has launched the Liberia
Girls Can Code and Artificial Intelligence Initiative 2026, aimed at equipping 1,000 girls and young women with practical digital, technical and entrepreneurial skills.
The first 600 participants will be selected from Bomi, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Lofa and Maryland counties. The programme will combine hands-on training, mentorship and problemsolving activities with exposure to opportunities in technology, science, technology, engineering and mathematics( STEM), entrepreneurship and further education.
Implemented in partnership with UN Women and other stakeholders, the initiative seeks to address barriers that continue to limit girls’ participation in the digital economy. These include restricted access to devices and connectivity, financial constraints, geographical challenges, limited exposure to technology and concerns around online safety.
Speaking at the launch, Liberia’ s Minister of Education, Dr Jarso Maley Jallah, emphasised the importance of preparing girls and young women to play an active role in shaping the technologies that will increasingly influence the country’ s education system, workforce and economic development.
The initiative aims to empower more Liberian girls to innovate, develop solutions to real-world challenges, establish businesses, pursue higher education and explore emerging career opportunities in the technology sector. www. intelligentcio. com
